WAWI Executive Summary of Hygiene Promotion Capacity Assessment

WAWI (1970)

WAWI's hygiene promotion (HP) capacity assessment examined three main components and seven subcomponents: Behavior Change (Key Behaviors and Messages); Strategy (Design and Development, Implementation and Monitoring and Evaluation); and Resources (Personnel and Finances). Based on the assessment findings, WAWI determined that the following four capacities needed to be strengthened: Delineation of complete behavior change strategy (BCS) as a partnership, including clear behavior analysis and detailing of all intervention areas; Development of evaluation linked to BCS; Development of linkages between HP and water infrastructures; and Training of partner staff in HP. It recommends that WAWI develop an HP strategy, train partner staff in BC techniques and maximize use of existing HP capacity. In order to implement these recommendations WAWI would need a BCS model for all countries to use, a WAWI HP BC specialist to provide training and adequate funds.
