Plan International

Plan International is an international humanitarian, child-centered, community development organization without religious, political or governmental affiliation. Plan’s vision is of a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies which respect people’s rights and dignities. Plan benefits 15 million people in 45 developing countries. Funding is generated through National Offices in 15 industrialized countries: child sponsorship (80%) and bilateral and multilateral donors (20%). Plan’s annual world-wide income was over USD 400 million in 2004.

Water and Environmental Sanitation (WES) is a crucial pillar of Plan’s programs

· USD 22 million was spent in WES during 2004 worldwide.

· Priority issues:

  • Community-managed WES programs
  • Growing emphasis on hygiene education
  • Growing emphasis on excreta disposal
  • Global and regional WES policies and strategies are being developed, to complement existing public health’s.
  • Permanent WES and public health staff at International Headquarters, Regional and Country Offices and Program Units (sub-national).
