HIP WAWI Final Report.pdf (351.0 kB)
A paper prepared by Sumaila S. Saaka and Lonna B. Shafritz for the 33rd WEDC International Conference held in Accra, Ghana, 2008. This paper has two main objectives. First, to highlight the behavioural change perspective of sustaining point-of-use water in Ghana based on a literature review. And second, to share HIP’s experiences working with the WAWI partnership in the Northern Ghana, after having introduced them to the behavioural analysis approach to designing water, sanitation and hygiene behaviour change interventions.
WAWI performed a hygiene promotion capacity assessment to examine the main components and subcomponents of hygiene promotion. Based on the assessment findings, it decided four main capacities needed to be strengthened and made recommendations and identified next steps to strengthen capacity for hygiene promotion.
